Nickie - small female chihuahua type mixed breed dog

Nickie has had a rough time of things. She has had a few homes and been passed around like a parsons plate. Her last owners abandoned her when they took off. They also left a Kelpie X with puppies behind without food or water. They are now in RSPCA care. A neighbour took Nickie in as she was roaming, hoping she could keep her along with her own dogs but it hasn't worked out and and she has realised that she can't save the world on her own. Maybe there is someone left to show this little dog some love.

Nickie is around 4 years old, female and has a quiet nature. A home with an older person would be just perfect but she would adapt to most situations.

She's the Bella the Ball.
Bella is a Border Collie mix, female and is around 12 weeks old.
Please don't offer to take Bella if you don't understand puppies. Bella might chew your things if you let her, she might even start a new pool excavation if she's bored. She might even have an accident or two inside the house.
These are the maybe's now lets assess what will happen if you take her on, train her to be a companion and bring her into your family.
You will have the loyalty of a rescued soul, the love of an animal that needs to feel wanted and wants to fulfil your every whim, fetch your shoes, round up your goats, all of this could be yours!!

Mac has a wonderful nature, he's playful yet in a controlled kind of way. He loves everything he meets and will make a great family pet. He passes all our assessments with ease. Consider Mac as an ideal family protection type. As he grows he'll be a substantial size. His temperament should be gentle but he will have enough size to be persuasive if you let him become a family member and continue his great social development.

Queenie - medium female australian kelpie type dog

Queenie came to us as a stray from a property a long way out of town. She is probably working lines but is a very quiet and steady dog. Queenie may have been abused also although there are no obvious physical signs and no emotional baggage other than her shyness. This will improve as she begins to understand that there is nothing to fear here. She does need to build confidence but she will be worth it rewarding the 1st person to bond with her with her devotion.

Jacko - small male jack russell terrier dog

Lovely temperament in this young male JRT smooth coat. He likes other dogs and loves people too, not sure about cats though. He's a small, short haired, outgoing, wash and wear type dog. He needs a fenced yard, someone to play with, regular meals and moderate exercise. Not much of an investment for what you'll get in return.

Volunteer Program

NEXT INTAKE MEETING IS WEDNESDAY 22/2/12 at 6PM AT THE SHELTER
Introduction - Encouraging community volunteers to assist with the operation of an Animal Shelter provides a number of benefits including:

· Enabling more work to be done to provide the best opportunities for re-homing suitable animals.
· Raising community awareness of Animal Shelter activities.
· Assisting with a need by some members of the community who are not in a position to own an animal themselves.
· Assisting to educate its pet-owning population.

Volunteers contribute greatly to the health and wellbeing of animals at the Shelter and assist in duties such as bathing, walking, training and playing with the animals, and raising community awareness by attending local fairs and events.

The shelter need volunteers who can show they have:
· Ability to handle animals.
· Past experience working with animals.
· Availability to attend on a set day each week is preferred.
· Ability to engage and interact with staff and other volunteers in a positive and constructive manner.
· Strong commitment to Council's policies and procedures in relation to the care and management of animals.
· Ability to meet OHS/risk management/work safety requirements.

Enrolment - Before you are able to become a volunteer at the Animal Shelter, you are required to complete a Registration Form and return it to either:
· The Customer Service Centre, Ground Floor of Council’s Administration Building, 135 Rusden Street, Armidale or
· The New England Regional Companion Animals Shelter, 29 Saumarez Road, Armidale or
· Post it to Armidale Dumaresq Council, PO Box 75A, Armidale. NSW 2350.

Occupational Health and Safety information - Note that attendance at an Occupational Health and Safety Information Session, presented by Council, is compulsory and is generally conducted during the induction to the Animal Shelter

·Training - Initial training in assistance areas must be provided prior to the volunteer commencing duties. Once your enrolment into the volunteer program has been approved, contact the Shelter on 67715498 to arrange training assistance. Training is available in the following areas:

· Animal grooming
· Exercising animals
· Dog obedience training
· Grounds maintenance
· General assistance
